HI 016: CERTIFICATE COURSE ON INTRODUCTION TO URBAN HUMANITARIANISM
By 2040, 45 billion, almost fifty percent of the world’s population are predicted will live in towns and cities of low income countries. Within the urban settlements almost half of the population is likely to live in informal settlements. Whilst presenting their inhabitants with an array of opportunities, informal settlements are often located in hazardous areas, lacking access to basic services, and highly vulnerable to a range of risks. . Providing sustainable protection for displaced people in urban areas will mean engaging politically with municipal authorities and integrating people of concern into urban governance systems.
